Educational visits are an important and enjoyable part of student life at BIS. In addition to sporting events such as FOBISSEA our students also participate in subject-related visits in Science, Humanities, Maths and Art. Some teachers also organise specialist visits such as scuba training and the annual ski trip to Switzerland. Secondary students also regularly participate in CAS and International Award visits. Primary students enjoy a range of day visits to local marinas, temples, waterfalls, festivals and Phuket Zoo.

Year group visits have become firmly fixed in our calendar over the past few years and most year groups in both the Primary and Secondary schools now enjoy annual overnight visits of a few days away from Phuket. All year group visits now have curriculum elements (such as assessing the impact of tourism or exploring local culture and environments) as well as team-building exercises and outdoor activities such as kayaking, caving and mountain biking. On these visits learning and personal development takes place based on direct experience in new and exciting environments.

In the Primary School students are introduced to overnight visits in Year 3 by camping for one night in the safe environment of the school grounds. In recent years our Year 4 students have camped overnight in Thalang, Year 5 have visited Ayutthaya on the “Magic Eye’ barge trip and Year 6 have visited the temples and countryside of Chiang Mai.

Over the past few years Secondary students have visited the ‘Death Railway’ and Second World War museums of Kanchanaburi, historical sites in Ayutthaya and the art galleries, temples and museums of Bangkok. More recently our Year 7 and 8 students have visited and studied local environments and enjoyed a range of outdoor activities around Phang Nga Bay.

Overnight visits provide an opportunity for students to become more independent. They learn to organise their own clothes and equipment, manage their time and support each other. Safety is our priority and our risk assessment procedures are designed to ensure that the events and activities enjoyed by students are safe and successful for all participants whilst still maintaining an appropriate level of excitement! All hazardous activities (kayaking, rafting, climbing, caving, scuba diving, etc) are supervised by internationally qualified activity leaders.
