In August 2012 British International School, Phuket is introducing a 1-1 Laptop program in the Secondary school. The expectation is that eventually every Secondary student will have a laptop computer and the use of these will be integrated into student’s learning.
This program will be first introduced with year’s 8 and 9 in August 2012 with year 7’s joining the program in January 2013. For IB and IGCSE the school recommends that students will benefit from owning a laptop.
The laptop chosen after consultation, with parents and students, for the 1-1 program is the MacBook Pro 13 inch with Microsoft Office for Mac installed. It is strongly recommended that all secondary students purchase one of these computers. Island Technology is the chosen supplier and using the order forms (available from the school or in the download section of this page) students can take advantage of Apple Educational pricing.
Students do need to purchase their own copy of Microsoft Office. Island Technology includes this at a very good price on the order form and the school technicians will install for you. Additionally the school has purchased a variety of software licenses for use on student laptops which will be installed on Secondary students MacBook Pro 13 inch computers at no cost. The school provided software will include Adobe CS5.5 (Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, InDesign, Acrobat), Autograph, iWorks (Pages, Numbers, KeyNote) and LanSchool.
