During the first week of the summer holidays, eight students participated in work experience at Siriroj International Hospital (formerly known as Phuket International Hospital) and Outrigger Laguna Phuket Beach Resort. In addition to being an invaluable opportunity to experience a work environment before deciding on a course of study, or to gain skills you cannot learn in the classroom, work experience is an important factor in the university application. The university counsellors encourage students to get experience wherever they can in any industry. Learning what you don’t want to do, is just as important as learning what you do want.
Tanasorn Rojanasingsawad (World), Year 12, spent the week at Outrigger because she wants to take over her family’s hotel business one day. “It was quite an eye-opening experience to get to see the behind-the-scenes of other hotels. Normally, you would visit a hotel from a guest’s perspective. It was very interesting to be on the other side,” she says.
