Staff, students and families gathered at Outrigger Laguna Phuket Beach Resort’s Similan Ballroom on Friday to celebrate the breadth and depth of sporting achievement at British International School, Phuket (BISP).

Top all-round performance awards were presented for the five academy sports, circus arts and basketball. Award categories also included Sportsperson of the Year for both boys and girls at U11, U13, U15 and senior level, Most Improved, and Sportspersonship awards. The final awards of the evening were presented for Sports Leadership, Outstanding Achievement, and Contribution to School Sport.

Emceed by BISP Learn to Swim Coordinator, Coach Luke, the evening included a buffet meal and video compilations highlighting the year’s best and funniest sporting moments. PE teachers and coaching staff also shared their finest examples of sportspersonship seen throughout the year, giving special mention to students and teams who had treated their opponents, teammates and sports officials with fairness, kindness and respect.

Addressing the Ballroom of more than 250 guests, BISP Head of Physical Education, Ali Gates, said she was continually astounded by the scope of individual and team sporting success at BISP.

“We have numerous high-caliber athletes across a wide range of sports. This talent does not just develop by itself, but through the many opportunities students at BISP have to practice and perform.

“A large team of people have committed a huge amount of time and effort to create these opportunities. Parents, teachers, coaches, non-academic staff and support staff have all pulled together to achieve some fantastic results this year,” said Gates.

Prior to the awards ceremony, guests were treated to a spectacular aerial arts display by circus arts athletes in the courtyard of the hotel. During the ceremony, sister duo Andrea and Isabella sang a beautiful rendition of Kodaline’s All I Want, and the event concluded with an upbeat dance performance by BISP’s own ‘Filipino Boys’.
