By Tanasorn and Natkamol, Year 12 students at BISP:
On Tuesday the 16th of January 2018, our British International School, Phuket’s Thai Department invited Khun Chart Korbjitti, a two times S.E.A. Write Award winner for his novel “Khamphiphaksa” and “Wela”, to be our honoured guest speaker.
Our school’s IGCSE and IB students are currently studying Khun Chart’s work in Thai Language subjects. We were incredibly lucky to have had a chance to meet with him in person and to interview him about his life experiences and writing techniques.
“Writers are the engineers of our society,” said Khun Chart. “We have the power to influence society. If we put our all into our work, we have nothing to regret regardless of the results.”
The three-hour session with Khun Chart flew by unbelievably fast. As representatives of the students, we would like express our thanks to Khun Chart Korbjitti for giving us more insight into his life and his creative processes and more importantly, to the amazing Thai Department for this once in a lifetime opportunity.
“I really enjoyed listening to Khun Chart Korbjitti. He gave a lot of advice on writing techniques and how to deal with problems. I think his attitude towards life is very interesting and useful in everyday life,” said Khemthong, Year 12.
“From the talk I’ve learned many things not only about writing techniques but also valuable life experiences and lessons. I’ve learned that to write, you must first know the message that you would like to convey to readers, and the way you convey is absolutely up to you and what you’d like to do with your craft. I’ve learned that passion and determination can beat all odds as long as you keep dreaming and working towards accomplishing it,” said Napassanan, Year 11.
