As we head towards the final 6 weeks of this academic year, it is right that we make it a point to reflect and celebrate the work of BISTEK, BISP’s very own student-led technical team! The team is currently made up of 16 students ranging from Year 9 – Year 12. They meet once a week and look to gain valuable technical skills which can then be used to support events across the school calendar.bisp bistek team member 2018
During the past 11 months, the group has produced YouTube live streams for many of our music and drama productions (Ebenezer, Christmas Carol and Oklahoma to name a few). These live streams are not only broadcast on YouTube as the production is taking place but are also stored on the group’s channel (, so that friends and family can enjoy the performance weeks or months after the curtains have closed.

It is not only our creative arts departments that have benefited from the team’s expertise. They have also live streamed many of the school’s sporting events such as the Breakers Cup Basketball tournament, the Soccer 7s Football tournament as well as last weekend’s Flying Fish swim meet. These sporting highlights are attended by teams from all over South East Asia (and further afield), therefore the online streams provide a channel for the coaches and parents to watch their teams compete despite being thousands of miles from their home school. They have also proved extremely popular; the Soccer 7s stream has been accessed over 7000 times already this year!

bisp bistek at work 2018Live streaming is delivered with industry-level kit which includes Open Broadcaster Software and 4k high definition video cameras. The students will often use multiple camera angles in a live environment and will cue preprepared audio and video to use when appropriate. These skills are not only key to those who may want to work in the media industry, but also give the students the ability to make professional looking videos to evidence their learning across the whole curriculum.

With the 2019 calendar already being populated with new and innovative events (Augmented Reality Treasure Hunts and Virtual School Tours), it looks like the students will be kept busy once again in their quest to prove that BISP is at the forefront of student-led technical support.
