BISP’s Year 9 & 10 Art students went on a 3-day Elsie Evans Art Retreat in Rayong, to take part in workshops run by Scottish Artist Elsie Evans and South African Artist Elzahn Nel. On arrival, they were served delicious treats and then led into the studio, where Elzahn Nel demonstrated how to take objects and create compositions. The students later worked on their own sketches with water colours and pastel.
“The next morning we woke up to yoga and stretched our way into the day. In our Art session, students learnt how to draw the figure. Working from observation, we focused on different techniques to observe movement using colour pastel. After a busy day of Art we finished with a BBQ and a swim,” said Ms. Charlotte McGuigan, Art Teacher in BISP.
On the final day, students planned their own compositions for a larger painting on canvas. Using acrylic paint, Elsie Evans showed students different techniques in this material and discussed ways to develop their ideas. A great weekend escape from their studies where all students relaxed and were able to explore their creative side.
