Tacola Swimming Championship, Khao Lak, 8-9th August

Flying Fish attended the Tacola Swim Meet for a second year during early August.

We had many eager swimmers training over the summer and some returning from holidays early to have a few swimming sessions before this meet. As many of you were aware we had terrible weather over the week preceding this meet and a few swimmers were unable to make the meet due to the flooding in Phuket and surrounding areas.

Saturday was a very wet meet day and we stayed in raincoats and warm jackets the entire day. The meet was very long and we were still swimming at 8:30pm after starting at 7:00am.

We had some very successful swims and brought home lots of heat medals as we have not participated in a Southern Thailand Meet since 2014.  Special mention goes to Kieran Quilty for his outstanding meet and 9 new personal best times.

Shuan and Aleksandra Pengsomboon participated in their first travel meet and performed very well.  Aleksandra set 6 personal best times for herself and this is an attestment to the hard work she has done over the season. At this meet Rainer Oeijord also broke the Flying Fish club record for 50m breaststroke setting a new time of 45.42.

Thank you to the parents and swimmers for participating and Khun Pook for the wonderful accommodation and team dinner on Sunday night.

Torwai Swimming Championship Phuket, 19th August

While at the Tacola swim meet the BIS School was invited to attend a School Swimming Championship in Phuket. We had 12 swimmers sign up in the very short time the event was open.

After a very early warm-up the event commenced with the 50m fly at 8:00am. We had lots of personal best times from our athletes which was fantastic given that they have only been back training for a short time.

Congratulations to our swimmers who broke Short Course club records
