Report by BISP Flying Fish Head Coach Helen Sweeney

On the weekend of 25-27 March 2016, a large contingent of 51 British International School, Phuket (BISP) Flying Fish swimmers attended the Rocket Science Invitational event held at Thanyapura.

The meet commenced on Friday with an open water “pool” swim. Some of the age groups involved a tough start with 15-20 swimmers all starting together. We had several placings in this event including Tegan Sweeney 1st overall 6-8 year-olds, Rita Iminova 3rd 13-14 girls, Anna Sharapova 4th 9-10 girls, and Kieran Quilty 7th 9-10 boys.

Saturday morning commenced with Freestyle Relays where BISP had enough swimmers to enter four teams into the mixed 8 & under event.

In the individual events we had some outstanding swims, including the 50m Free where Paula Arteka swam 31.97 and Raymond Windsor performed a personal best of 24.90.

Jazz Conrad swam a very even paced 200m Freestyle to drop more than 20 seconds from her personal best, and place 3rd in this event, while Zoe Bowden convincingly won the 15-17 800m Freestyle.

William Morgan had an outstanding 100m Breaststroke and Fame Aikvanich won the boys 8 & under 50m Fly with a big time improvement for him. Overall we set 21 BISP Flying Fish club records.

The event finished with some exciting relays where Mila Chakabandhu swam a fantastic anchor leg to help her team to a 5th placing.

It was a tough meet for all our 6 & Under athletes who swam against older athletes, but nevertheless a great competitive experience. We are looking forward to them participating in our May Meet on 7-8 May.
