BISP RPT Tennis Academy took part in a matchplay event against Bangkok Patana School and Harrow School last weekend, taking 11 players ranging from 9 years-old to 17 years-old.
This was always going to be a tough event for our unexperienced players against two well established tennis teams. Some of our players were competing for the very first time.
This was a vital event for our players to see the standard of the other schools and gain crucial experience whilst being away from home. All players won at least one match and everybody had a great attitude throughout.
All players put in sterling efforts, but especially Kevin Hansen, 13, who played Patana’s No.3 player, aged 14, and managed to save 2 matchpoints to come back and win 7-6.
This showed great character and composure after having a rain delay at 4-5 down in the deciding tie-breaker. Kevin went on to lose to Patana’s strongest player, 16 years-old, in his next match.
I was especially pleased with how our players conducted themselves on and off court, showing good sportsmanship throughout. Also the way we played tennis was good to see, the game plans are there to see and we will only get stronger with more competition experience.
