On Saturday 5 March, the Lagoon Saloon, Java Racing Charters, Multihull Solutions and Java Sailing Academy organized the first Corsair Pulse 600 trimaran fleet and staged a race day on Sapam Bay right outside Boat Lagoon.
British International School, Phuket (BISP) students Finn de Bruin and James Essex joined in and came away vowing to compete every month. With sponsorship from Cholamark Boats, Regattas Asia and Boat Lagoon, the five teams enjoyed great sailing and some very close racing.
After a quick briefing, all teams were given a run down on their Pulse 600’s and headed out. No wind of course so everybody floated around and enjoyed the hospitality of Java Racing Charters for a while before breeze on!
A course was quickly set to make the most use of the 7-10 knots which filled in from the southeast. With a short start line and 10 minute upwind legs we completed 4 close races with podium positions being shared among the fleet.
The mark roundings were exciting and the one design Pulse 600’s proved the perfect boat with families and inexperienced crew getting a taste of close racing.
The intention is to run a regatta in conjunction with the Lighthouse Market on the first Saturday of every month and students are welcome to apply for crew positions.
Encouraging novice sailors to experience proper racing is a primary goal and Java Sailing Academy wants to see more of them!
The next race day is April 2nd, please contact [email protected] to book your place.
