British International School, Phuket (BISP) together with the Embassy of the Federative Republic of Brazil, sponsored by the Hon. Consul of Brazil in Phuket and champion Brazilian football club Cruzeiro EC, held the Brazil Embassy Futebol Championships from 11-12 June to celebrate this summer’s Olympic Games 2016 being held in Rio de Janeiro.

BISP Cruzeiro Football Academy Head Coach Jonathas Candido says, “The Brazil Embassy Futebol Championships was played in a real Brazilian atmosphere, with great performances and lots of happiness.

“Hosting such an amazing event in celebration of the Rio Olympics, and welcoming guests from the Brazilian embassy was a fantastic feeling. As a Brazilian I felt very proud to be involved in an event carrying the name of my country.”

“I hope the tournament will continue to grow in numbers, and that next year we can have clubs from Brazil and other countries also join. The Brazil government and Cruzeiro football club are very excited to support us with this.”

Athletics Director Jeff LaMantia adds, “The calibre of footballers and teams were of a very high standard, and it was an honour to host such a prestigious event in celebration of the Olympic games.

“We thank the Brazilian embassy for all their support, and we look forward to working with them again to host the second annual tournament next year.”
