The weekend of March 27th-29th saw a very large BISP Flying Fish contingent of 62 swimmers attending the Thanyapura Rocket Science Swim Meet. Despite the tough start for each of the divisions we had several swimmers place in their age group in the Friday night open water swim.
Our success in the pool followed us on Saturday morning with some great relay swims by our age group swimmers. We placed in nearly every relay which gave us some valuable points in the team score total.
Thanks go to those athletes who undertook the hardest stroke in the 400m medley relay (100m fly): Jonty McLean-High, Harriet Clowes, Vova Vladimirov and Jennifer Sydney. Some of our 5 and 6 year olds also get a special mention for swimming 50m fly in the 4 x 50m medley (Ig Hongsyok and HiiSan Kim).
In the individual events there were a few technical delays including Aniq pulling block 5 from the ground in the 50m fly event. He was allowed a re-swim and all other 50m events were swum from the opposite end of the pool!
The last event of the day was the 4 x 200m open freestyle relay swam at 6:30pm. We fielded a very young team of Harriet Clowes (12), Arina Evtushenko (9), Jasmine Nolan (8) and Tegan Sweeney (7) after Tegan decided we may need the points in this event. Congratulations girls on taking a bronze medal against some much older and faster competitors.
After an exhausting day at the pool from 7:00am until 7:00pm we were back on Sunday morning. Despite the heat and lengthy meet we had some outstanding personal best times in the 50m freestyle and 100m butterfly on Sunday.
Thank you to all the swimmers and parents for waiting through the open events including 3 heats of the 800m freestyle to swim in the last event 4 x 50m medley relays. Every single swimmer contributed to our grand total of 3451 points which was the top scoring team.
Congratulations on a great team effort Flying Fish.
