A Phuket–based humanitarian boat initiative will make its debut alongside the latest in marine and luxury lifestyle offerings at this year’s PIMEX Phuket International Boat Show.
From January 7 to 10, 2016 more than 5,000 anticipated visitors will be able to visit British International School, Phuket’s booth where Schooner IXDOS, a 60-foot two-masted schooner will be featured.
The boat is slated for completion by the end of 2016 and will bring medical aid and education opportunities to the children and families of the thousands that dot Asia’s sweeping coastal regions.
In keeping with UNICEF’s Millenium Development Goal of reducing child mortality through the Global Vaccine Action Plan that seeks to prevemt millions of deaths by 2020 through equitable access to existing vaccines for people of all world communities, Schooner Ixdos will be outfitted to carry medical teams, equipment, and vaccines to islands reachable only by boat.
The schooner is being completed on the grounds of the British International School in Phuket. In an amazing children-for-children effort, students of BISP are taking the school’s “Make a Difference’ mandate beyond classroom walls.
Working under the leadership of Patrick Vickers, a retired BISP teacher and mariner, the students are involved in everything from dinghy racing fundraisers to designing and building solar panels for their adopted enterprise.
With one year to completion Schooner Ixdos promises to entrance PIMEX 2016 visitors with its promise to deliver hope to Asia’s vulnerable island and coastal communities.
