As the Australian Open in Melbourne kicks off the new professional season, we at the BISP RPT Tennis Academy are starting the new year with our first UTR Tennis Tournament on 26th-27th January. The UTR (Universal Tennis Rating) is the foremost Tennis rankings system used across the world, from Thailand to USA, the UK to Australia, from amateur to professional & junior to adult levels.
We currently have over 100 children taking part in our programme across BISP’s Tennis School, Tennis Academy and High Performance. With 25 of our players already registered, the UTR tournament this weekend will provide our players with the opportunity to put techniques, tactics and mental strength they have been working on during group sessions to the test. Win or lose, it will give them much needed match experience, which they can use and ‘put in the bank’ as part of their longer term development.
Throughout our programme our “Mini-red” players learn the very basics of the game with Red ball, Orange ball, Green ball and eventually Yellow (hard ball). As an RPT Centre of Excellence we focus on all aspects of the game, those being Physical, Technical, Tactical and Mental. Our High performance players have been lucky enough this week to work on that last one, MENTAL, with renowned Sports Psychologist Dr Adriana Kaplanova.
We really hope that it all comes together and all participants have a fantastic experience at UTR tournament this weekend. Whether you are playing or not, please come down to show your support of what promises to be a great occasion.
So whilst the finals of the Australian Open take place this coming Saturday or Sunday – who knows, maybe we will be crowning our very own future champion, right here at BISP Tennis Academy!
