Dear Parents and Guardians,
We would like to share with you the musical activities we are offering in both the Primary and Secondary schools in addition to curriculum lessons and private instrumental lessons.
Primary Production – “Dream on”, rehearsing on a Monday and Friday for students who have chosen this activity. All students in Years 3/4/5/6 will also take part in the chorus and will rehearse in their year group choral sessions during the school day.
KS1 and 2 Choir – Mr. Snape will take this after-school activity on Tuesdays.
Wednesday lunchtime concerts – We will continue these very successful concerts to showcase the musicians in the primary school. The concerts will begin on September 8th with a short recital featuring the music staff – come and find out what a euphonium sounds like!
We will also be running a variety of short lunchtime activities such as student bands and a recorder group.
Whole School Production – Years 5-13 – “Oliver!”
We are pleased to announce that “Oliver!” is to be the 2014/15 musical and will be staged in April 2015 directed by Mr. Evans, with musical direction by Mrs. Wilkinson.
Auditions will take place on Thursday, October 9th from 2.45 to 5 for students in Year 5-13.
Rehearsals will commence after the half-term holiday on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4pm to 5pm with a whole cast Saturday afternoon workshop on Saturday, November 1st 2pm to 4pm. There will be additional rehearsals in 2015. Secondary students sign up via the activities register, and Primary students who wish to audition need to sign up on the list on the primary music room door.
Secondary Choir – Year 7-13 This is an after-school activity that we will run throughout the school year so that the choir can go from strength to strength with the long term aspiration of taking part in choral festivals in SE Asia.
String Ensemble – Year 7-13 If you learn a string instrument violin/cello/double bass please come along and play a variety of fun and interesting pieces. We will meet on a Tuesday at 10.10 (snacks will be provided!)
Jazz Band – Year 7-13
Calling all players of the following instruments – Flute/Clarinet/Saxophone/Trumpet/Trombone/Bass Guitar/Drums/Electric Guitar – we would like to invite you to come and play in the BISP Jazz Band. We won’t just play Jazz but Soul, R&B and Pop arrangements. Please come along – everyone is welcome!
Thursday lunchtime – from 1.00pm
Bands – Years 7-13
There are so many excellent bands at BISP and probably a few more being formed as we write! We are putting together a rehearsal schedule to allow all bands to rehearse in the music department. Coaching will continue to be available if the students so wish.
Friday lunchtime concerts
Friday lunchtimes will once again be a performance platform for soloists and groups in the MTB. Students who would like to perform should contact Ms. Daniels in the first instance. Informal concerts are a wonderful way to gain performing experience no matter what you play!
We would like to encourage as many students to take part in our range of musical activities.
The Parent’s Choir
The Parents’ Choir will restart rehearsals on Friday mornings from 8.05 am in the Secondary Music department. We will meet on Friday September 12th after Mr. Richard’s address to parents, in the music department. The first rehearsal will be on Friday September 19th at 8.15, again in the music department.
Anyone with a love of singing is more than welcome to join both new and former members for an hour of singing that will be both enjoyable and challenging, the only prerequisite is the willingness to commit to weekly rehearsals.
We will be working towards a performance at the Christmas concert hopefully joining with the Secondary Choir and the Teachers’ Choir for some combined items. In addition we have been given a provisional invitation to sing one or more Gospel numbers for a film project in October.
I am sure there will be further performing opportunities throughout the school year.
Please join us on September 12th but if you would like more information, contact: [email protected]
