The 11th Annual British International School, Phuket (BISP) Volleyball Smackdown was held last Saturday on 23rd March. The event is a favourite on the school calendar, bringing together students, teachers and staff members for a morning of fun. This year, we opened the event to other schools on the island and were happy to welcome teams from Headstart and KIS.
Six teams entered the Social Division, including student teams Itsy Bitsy Spikers, the Beach Boys and KIS. Friend Zone and Drop Shot Sisters were composed of school parents and the Six Pack team of Headstart teachers added a good level of play. After several round robin matches, it was the Beach Boys that claimed the Social Division title over Friend Zone in the final.
The Competitive Division continues to grow and this year featured eight teams. The two student teams entered by Headstart – the Diggers and the Whackers – showed great composure and skill, bringing out the best in Aom’s WL XP team comprised of our Year 13 boys. The Year 12 boys in Lads HQ outplayed the BISP teachers’ team, the Smashing Pumpkins, as well as the KIS Staff team.
The grand final in the Competitive Division saw the two Phuket university teams, the Hit Men and the Hot Shots, up against each other and it was a thrilling match. These two teams really set the bar each year and play a high standard of volleyball. The blocking was lightning quick and their three-hit combinations consistent and precise, culminating in dynamic and accurate spikes. The Hit Men proved too strong in the end, overwhelming their opposition with accuracy and teamwork to seal their second consecutive BISP Volleyball Smackdown title.
We look forward to welcoming all the teams back again next year.
