Each class has been exposed to 4 Ancient Civilisations- Vikings, Romans, Greeks and Aztecs, and from here they have decided which line of enquiry that they would like to follow further.
After selecting which Ancient Civilisation they would like to study, the children started to formulate questions to focus their research on.
We have already been impressed with the open ended questions that have been generated focusing on aspects of everyday life such as education, transport, laws and punishments. They have also used the Internet to research the extent of their civilisations empire and recorded this on maps.
In Literacy we have focused on some famous Greek myths including Theseus and the Minotaur, and Pandora’s Box. From this we have identified the features of myths and started to make comparisons between them.
The children have also completed detailed character descriptions of both their heroes and their mythical creatures. The next step in the writing process is to plan their myth before they start to write it.
This week children will be creating some art or artefacts to help with their learning about our Ancient Civilisations.
To do this, we will be using a range of different materials and the school will provide most of these. However, if you have any cardboard/ cereal boxes then please send them to school with your child on Monday; any thickness or size will be appreciated!
This week we have continued our focus on Place Value and Addition in Numeracy lessons. We have some wonderful mathematicians in Y4 and throughout the week they have impressed with their ability to complete extension tasks.
