As part of the IB Environmental Systems and Societies (ESS) course, Year 13 students are required to evaluate the success of a conservation area. To conclude their studies, students had the opportunity to visit the Gibbon Rehabilitation Center in Pa Klok, Phuket.
During the visit, students met with passionate experts who explained the center’s mission and the vital role it plays in protecting Phuket’s natural rainforest and wildlife. The team at the center shared the challenges of gibbon rehabilitation and release, as well as the importance of preserving native habitats.
Students were able to apply their classroom knowledge to a real-world conservation project, engaging in thoughtful discussions about biodiversity, ethical conservation, and the social and ecological value of protected areas.
Both students and staff would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the Gibbon Rehabilitation Center for their time, dedication, and enthusiasm. The experience was a powerful reminder of the importance of protecting these incredible species and the ecosystems they call home.
