At BISP, we aim to nurture students who excel not only in academics and sport, but also in the way they contribute to their community. Hayley, a Year 12 student, is a shining example of this, demonstrating dedication to service, leadership and kindness in all that she does. From her role as House Captain to her ongoing volunteer efforts, Hayley consistently goes above and beyond to support others.

As part of her CAS project, she led a football equipment drive after visiting South Africa last June, where she played in a local league match. Seeing the challenges faced by the girls she played with left a lasting impression.

Hayley explained:
Last June I went to South Africa and played football with South African girls. They invited me to play in a league match. I noticed not all of them had shin pads. They were not allowed to play the league match without shin pads. To be able to play, they used cut-up cardboards because they couldn’t afford to buy shin pads. Not all of them had football boots either. They were playing with trainers. This really got to me — here I never have to worry about new shin pads, and there they are, unable to afford them. It made me sad to see this. So I wanted to help them and came up with the idea to collect gently used football boots, shin pads, gloves and bags. I sent out a notice on social media, the school parents’ Facebook page and at the donation shelves.

Thanks to her efforts and determination, Hayley successfully gathered 58 pairs of football boots, 11 sets of shin pads, 10 bags and more equipment.

A dedicated footballer at the BISP Cruzeiro Football Academy, Hayley’s commitment to sport extends beyond her own training. She coaches the Under 9 and Under 11 primary girls’ football teams twice a week, serving as a role model both on and off the pitch. The younger students look up to her, and her presence helps to build confidence and enjoyment in every session.

In the classroom, Hayley excels in her BTEC programme, always submitting high-quality work on time and managing her schedule with maturity. She brings the same dedication to her extracurricular coaching sessions, leading effective and engaging drills for younger students, even in sports outside her usual comfort zone.

As House Captain of Red Tigers, Hayley’s spirit is impossible to miss. Whether she is leading a musical chairs event, arriving early to meetings or cheering in a red inflatable dragon costume, she brings energy, organisation and heart to everything she does. This year alone, she has volunteered at school events no fewer than 17 times.

Beyond these visible achievements, Hayley is known for her quiet encouragement of others. She is a constant supporter at school productions and awards ceremonies, often arriving with flowers to celebrate her friends. She also lends a helping hand in Learning Support, offering younger students advice, empathy and motivation.

Hayley’s story is a powerful reminder of the impact one student can have through generosity, everyday actions and a strong sense of community. We are incredibly proud of Hayley’s attitude, dedication and compassion. She truly represents the values we celebrate at BISP, to inspire learning, nurture wellbeing and ignite passion.
