Welcome

In November of each year, British International School, Phuket (BISP) hosts the annual BISP Soccer Sevens, the largest such schools tournament in Asia. Every year we welcome more than 120 teams from 35 different international schools, that’s 1350 competitors from 8 different countries.

Entries are welcome from any international school and the tournament includes age categories for students upwards from Under 9s. The mission of the annual BISP Soccer 7s is to create world-class competitive experiences and opportunities within a welcoming atmosphere.

We strive to develop and realise individual and team potential by promoting high standards of competence, character, and sportsmanship.

Welcome to BISP

Welcome all to the BISP Soccer Sevens. This year we have hit a record number of players for this festival of football, and I can guarantee that everyone involved in the tournament will take away memories that will last a lifetime.

Of course, all athletes compete to win, and I am sure many of you will try your utmost to do so, but for most of us throughout our sporting careers we have also had to learn how to lose.

This is by far the most valuable lesson, because it is how we are able to react to failure that will largely determine future success, not only in sport but also throughout our lives.

I have reached a stage in my playing career when merely walking off a football pitch with the desire and physical capacity to want to play again is in itself a triumph.

Enjoy the next two days and give of your best in all ways, and then – no matter what the mathematics tells you – walk off the pitch with your head held high.

Note from the Organiser

This year, British International School, Phuket is proud to host the largest BISP Soccer Sevens tournament since it began more than a decade ago.

With more than 120 teams and over 1350 competitors from 35 different international schools throughout Asia competing this year, you will be participating in a truly multicultural event – one where playing with heart, passion, good sportsmanship and fair play are the most important elements.

An event such as this does not come without the hard work of many people. I wish to thank the whole BISP community and the Tournament Committee, including Lynne Daniel, Simon Ostheimer, Khun Ann, Khun Wate, as well as Khun Benz, and all members of each of the following departments: Events, Marketing, Business, Security, Kitchen, Maintenance and Grounds.

Also thanks to the referees from Phuket Rajabhat University as well as our CAS and Year 10 students for their assistance during the tournament. I would also like to send a special thanks to the Head of PE, Richard Stockings and the whole PE Department for all their support in the run up to and during the tournament.

Finally a huge thanks to the BISP leadership team, without whom this tournament would not be possible.

Welcome to Phuket – it’s your time to shine.
