BISP boarders headed to Mai Khao for a beach cleanup. Before getting their hands dirty, they attended a small workshop led by Michelle Mouille of the Sustainable Mai Khao Foundation.

The students collected a total of 51.1 kgs in 40 minutes. Although they ran out of time to separate, weigh and record the rubbish while they were on the beach Khun Yoda and Michelle did it for them and here are the results:

  • Glass bottles = 3 kg
  • Plastic bottle caps = 1.6 kg
  • Plastic bottles = 3.6 kg
  • ‘Hard plastic = 10.2 kg
  • Fishing rope/net = 4 kg
  • Lighters = 0.1 kg
  • Shoes = 3.1 kg
  • Polystyrene = 5.2 kg
  • Light bulbs = 0.2 kg
  • Fishing floaters = 0.1 kg
  • Metal cans = 0.1 kg
  • General rubbish = 19.9 kg

We would like to thank Michelle, Khun Yoda, the teachers, house parents and students for getting involved in taking responsibility for cleaning our beaches.
