Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

What began as an idea from Mrs Richards, Music & Drama Teacher, has grown into a creative cross-curricular project between the Music and Innovation departments. The goal was simple but exciting: to design and produce a working four-hole ocarina for every Year 2 pupil, ready for their upcoming Christmas performance.

With the help of Mr Lucas, Primary Innovation Teacher, the project moved from concept to creation through a series of design trials and refinements. To ensure the instruments were in the correct key and suitable for young musicians, several prototypes were developed and tested. After multiple rounds of adjustments to shape, tone and size, the final model was ready for 3D printing.

More than 60 ocarinas have now been printed in the Primary Innovation Studio, marking the completion of an exciting design journey that combined creativity, problem-solving and technology. Students have already begun practising with their 3D-printed ocarinas in class as they prepare for their festive performance.

This project is a great example of how collaboration between departments can bring ideas to life and create unique learning opportunities for students. It shows how music and technology can work hand in hand to inspire creativity, innovation and joy in learning.
