Early this week, IB Environmental Systems & Societies (ESS), Business, and Economics students from BISP had the opportunity to attend PHIST 2025 (Phuket Hotels for Islands Sustaining Tourism), Asia’s biggest sustainability learning event for the hospitality and tourism industry.

The event brought together industry leaders, innovators, and local organisations through a full day of masterclasses, workshops, and panel discussions, covering themes from tourism and oceans to zero-waste food, community-based tourism, and sustainable design, as well as a vibrant Sustainability Marketplace showcasing real life solutions.

Our students showed outstanding engagement throughout the day, particularly in the student-led Dragon’s Den workshop, where they collaborated with peers from other schools to pitch creative sustainable solutions to environmental challenges. They were able to put their classroom knowledge into practice, applying concepts from their IB subjects to real sustainability challenges. They also took part in curriculum-linked sessions such as regenerative tourism and green futures for hotels, making direct connections between what they study in the classroom and how businesses are addressing environmental, social, and economic sustainability in the real world.
