For Bonnie Langley, football has been part of life since she was six years old. Her journey began when she joined a boys team in Koh Samui, where she developed her skills and competed in various tournaments across Thailand. Growing up in Liverpool, she began playing at a local club before representing Liverpool and her county at youth level, where she competed against many other Premier League teams. Her journey later brought her to BISP, where she spent five years combining football with her education and ultimately completing the BTEC Sport programme.

I chose BISP because of the amazing facilities for football whilst also having a high level of education,Bonnie says.

Balancing training and academics required commitment. With early morning sessions, school and afternoon training, Bonnie learned to manage her time while discovering that football could also provide an important escape from the pressures of everyday life.

Football has helped me by giving me a couple of hours in the day where I can just switch off from whatever may be on my mind.

During her time with the BISP Cruzeiro Football Academy, Bonnie competed across Thailand and internationally, including tournaments in Spain, Portugal and Malaysia. One of her final highlights came at the BISP Soccer Sevens, where she finished her last tournament as a champion.

Stepping into Senior Football

Bonnie also took an important step towards her future by joining a senior women’s team in Thailand, giving her the opportunity to train and compete alongside national-team players.

I’ve always wanted to experience playing in a women’s league and playing with and against national team players,” she says. “There are many talented individuals who I can learn from and grow as a player.

Her journey has also included setbacks, with injuries forcing her to spend periods away from the pitch. Working through rehabilitation taught Bonnie one of the qualities she values most from her football experience.

I’ve learned a lot of resilience and that hard work always pays off.

Now a BISP graduate, Bonnie hopes to continue playing football in Europe or Thailand while also pursuing coaching qualifications. Her advice to younger players is to understand the commitment required and remain focused on their ambitions.

You have to put in the work and just keep focusing on your goals.

From Liverpool to Phuket and from youth football to the senior women’s game, Bonnie’s journey reflects the resilience, independence and determination developed through pursuing the sport she loves.
