The 2026/27 school year is already off to an active start for BISP’s BTEC Business and Sport programmes. From team-building and industry events to visits with leading hospitality businesses across Phuket, these early experiences are bringing key areas of the curriculum to life and giving learners valuable exposure to the world of work.

The year began with a two-day team-building trip to Khao Lak. A range of activities and challenges helped develop communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills, while building relationships that will support collaborative learning throughout the courses.

Next came the BEING and PHIST events, offering opportunities to hear directly from professionals across business, hospitality, wellness and tourism. BEING explored workplace wellbeing and its connection to leadership, culture and performance, while PHIST provided insight into sustainability, responsible tourism and the challenges facing the hospitality industry in Phuket and beyond.

More recently, the Year 12 BTEC Business cohort visited Renaissance Phuket Resort & Spa in Mai Khao for a behind-the-scenes look at hotel operations. Conversations with professionals from Marketing, HR, Sales and operational departments brought key areas of the curriculum to life, including branding, communication, customer service, revenue generation and KPIs.

The same day, Year 12 and Year 13 BTEC Sport students visited Four Points by Sheraton Phuket Patong Beach Resort, with a focus on event management, an area relevant to both BTEC programmes. The visit explored the process of planning and delivering events, from understanding a client brief and preparing a venue to staffing, promotion and coordination across departments.

Together, these experiences reflect an important part of the BTEC approach at BISP: connecting classroom study with practical learning and direct engagement with industry. Meeting professionals and seeing organisations in action helps bring course content to life, while developing the practical and professional skills needed beyond school.

And this is only the beginning, with further opportunities to engage with industry and put learning into practice throughout the year.
