BISP recently welcomed Ollie Tunmer, former member of the world-renowned percussion group STOMP and founder of the educational company BeatGoesOn, for an exciting week of musical exploration, creativity and collaboration.

Throughout the week, students across Primary and Secondary took part in interactive workshops, discovering how rhythm and percussion can bring people together and open up new ways of learning.

Years 3–6 explored body percussion, using clapping, stamping and movement to create rhythms without traditional instruments. Meanwhile, Year 7 students experienced African drum circles, working together to create shared rhythms, while Years 8 and 9 discovered the energy of Brazilian Samba Batucada.

The experience extended beyond the music classroom. Ollie also worked with BISP teachers, sharing practical and creative approaches to incorporating body percussion into the school’s Talk4Writing curriculum, demonstrating how rhythm can support communication, storytelling and learning across subjects.

A particular highlight was an open workshop bringing together Year 3 students and their parents. Families had the opportunity to participate in the activities, experiment with rhythm and enjoy making music together.

From exploring musical traditions around the world to discovering new ways of expressing themselves, students experienced a week filled with energy, teamwork and creativity.

A big thank you to Ollie for sharing his expertise, enthusiasm and passion for music with our students, families and staff, and for reminding us that sometimes all you need to make music is your own two hands!
