Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Mornings in BISP Nursery begin gently, giving children time to say goodbye to their parents, settle into the day and reconnect with friends and teachers through play.

This soft start allows each child to arrive at their own pace, choosing familiar areas and activities before the group comes together. Once everyone has settled in, children follow their morning routines, tidying away their toys and gathering to welcome one another and talk about the day ahead.

As part of these routines, teachers use Makaton signs alongside spoken language, helping to support communication and ensure every child can participate and feel included.

Learning Through Everyday Experiences

For Nursery Red, this particular morning also included their weekly visit to the Primary Library. The journey itself is part of the learning, as children practise lining up and moving safely through the school before being welcomed by Ms Katie for a story and the opportunity to choose a book to enjoy.

Back in Nursery, the morning continued with snack time, physical play in the garden and a range of adult-led activities.

While these moments may be part of an everyday Nursery morning, each one provides opportunities for learning and development. Through play, routines and interactions, children build social skills, language and communication, early number sense and independence, while becoming increasingly confident in their environment.

From choosing where to play at the start of the day to tidying up, sharing a story or spending time with friends in the garden, these familiar routines help create a sense of security, belonging and growing independence for our youngest learners.
