In a remarkable display of determination and resilience, BISP Year 11 student Chiara defied the odds at the recent Thailand Sprint Triathlon Championship. Despite facing an unexpected setback of pneumonia just days before the event, Chiara’s tenacity and rapid recovery secured her a spot on the starting line.

Chiara’s journey to Rayong was not without its challenges. The swim leg, characterised by choppy waters, tested her endurance right from the start. The bike segment added another dimension of difficulty with strong winds, all under the scorching heat of a summer day. However, the vibrant atmosphere of the championship fueled her spirit as she transitioned to the final run.

The lingering effects of her illness made each breath a struggle, yet Chiara pressed on, undeterred. A 10-second penalty, incurred due to a minor oversight with her water bottle placement, added to the challenges she faced during the race. Nevertheless, her determination shone through as she powered towards the finish line. Despite the hurdles encountered along the way, Chiara’s perseverance paid off as she crossed the finish line in a commendable second place, trailing only behind a seasoned 22-year-old Indonesian SEA Games athlete.

Reflecting on her achievement, Chiara expressed immense joy at being able to race and gain valuable experience in such a competitive event. Her journey serves as an inspiration to all, showcasing the power of perseverance in the face of adversity. Congratulations Chiara on your recent success.
