What a spectacular few weeks we have had! Our early years students have been busy exploring our community through incredible shared experiences. We have opened our doors to some very special real-life heroes: the fire brigade, a doctor and nurse team, the police department, and a dentist.
True learning in the early years thrives on hands-on, shared experiences. By interacting with these wonderful visitors, our children are not just having fun—they are hitting major milestones in the EYFS curriculum:
Understanding the World: The children have been developing a rich understanding of their own community, learning about the vital roles these professionals play in keeping us safe, healthy, and happy. In Early Years, our guiding principle is keeping ourselves and each other safe and happy.
Communication and Language: From asking the firefighters how the hose works to telling the dentist how many times a day they brush, our little ones have been bursting with new vocabulary, learning to listen attentively and ask brilliant questions. These exciting shared experiences help create a fantastically language rich environment.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development: Trying on heavy fire fighter jackets, sitting in the fire engine, examining the police truck and looking at medical tools has built self-confidence. These visits also foster deep empathy and a sense of security, showing children who they can trust in times of need. The police officer mentioned how confident and secure the young children were around them! The police officer remarked on the children’s notable sense of confidence in their presence.
Physical Development: Our doctor and dentist visit gave us a fantastic opportunity to focus on health and self-care, teaching the children the importance of hygiene, how to effectively wash away germs on our hands and how to look after their growing teeth.
A huge thank you to all our community heroes for giving up their time to inspire the next generation of helpers, thinkers, and changemakers.
Take a look at our confident learners in action!
