One of the most exciting parts of our KS3 music curriculum is our Concert Band Programme, which gives every student the opportunity to learn a brass or woodwind instrument under the guidance of our expert tutors.
In Year 7, students begin by learning the basics – from posture and playing technique to reading music and developing a clear tone. Our tutors ensure that every student feels supported as they take their first steps as musicians.
As students move into Year 8, they build on these foundations, developing greater technical control and musical understanding as they explore more challenging repertoire and perform together in class and small ensembles.
By Year 9, classes work as full concert bands, focusing on ensemble performance skills such as balance, listening, and blending. Students rehearse and perform a range of concert band repertoire, applying everything they have learned in a collaborative and rewarding setting.
Throughout the programme, students grow in confidence and musicianship. For many, this experience becomes the spark that inspires a lifelong enjoyment of music and performance.
