Following Mental Health Awareness Month in May, Year 10 students at the British International School, Phuket recently took the lead in organising and hosting a Mental Health Fair, welcoming visitors from Year 4 and Year 12 for an engaging and thought-provoking learning experience.
Working in small teams, students explored a range of important topics relating to mental health and wellbeing, with each group researching and presenting a different theme. The fair featured interactive booths covering subjects such as Wellbeing Through Music, Growth Mindset, Movement as Medicine, Self-Esteem, Body Image, the Impact of Social Media and Breaking Down the Stigma Surrounding Mental Health.
Guided by Mrs Clark, Assistant Head of Upper School, students spent time developing both their understanding of their chosen topic and their ability to communicate it effectively to different audiences. They were encouraged to think beyond simply sharing information by creating engaging activities that would encourage visitors to reflect on their own wellbeing and participate in meaningful discussions.
Each booth included a hands-on activity alongside a carefully designed takeaway resource, allowing visitors to continue exploring the topic after the event and reinforcing the key messages shared throughout the fair.
The event showcased the confidence, creativity and maturity of the Year 10 students, who demonstrated excellent communication and leadership skills while helping younger and older students alike engage with important conversations around mental health.
The Mental Health Fair was a wonderful example of student-led learning in action, highlighting BISP’s commitment to promoting wellbeing, encouraging empathy and empowering students to make a positive difference within the school community.
