On 4 February 2026, our Key Stage 2 students took to the top pitch for a morning of focused competition, determination, and outstanding House spirit. From the first warm-up at 8:10 am to the final presentations just after midday, the atmosphere was energetic and purposeful, reflecting the growing maturity and competitive edge of our Year 3–6 athletes.
Building on KS1, where the emphasis is on participation and introduction to events, KS2 Sports Day challenged students with a structured athletics programme. All students competed in five events: a middle-distance race, a pre-selected sprint, a jump, a throw, and the traditional Thai relay game, Wing Priaw.
The middle-distance races set the tone for the morning. Year 3 and 4 students completed 600m, while Year 5 and 6 students stepped up to an 800m race. These races required pacing, resilience, and tactical awareness—qualities our students demonstrated impressively.
Sprint events (50m or 100m) were equally competitive. Qualifying times had been recorded in PE lessons, with the eight fastest boys and girls in each year group progressing to finals. This structure brought an exciting championship feel to the track, with close finishes and strong performances across all year groups.
Field events showcased technical development and precision. Students pre-selected their preferred jump and throw disciplines. Jumps included long jump, triple jump, and high jump, with each athlete given three attempts and only their best result counting. Throws varied by age group, with Year 3 and 4 competing in quoit sling, push throw, and 300g javelin, and Year 5 and 6 stepping up to discus, push throw, and 500g javelin. This was the first year that Year 5 and 6 student participated in discus. Clear rules and officiating ensured events were conducted safely and fairly, reinforcing both technical standards and sportsmanship.
The scoring system rewarded both excellence and participation. In track and field events, 1st place earned 5 points, 2nd place 4 points, and 3rd place 3 points, with every other competitor contributing 1 point to their House. This meant that every effort mattered.
The ever-popular Wing Priaw relay brought teamwork to the forefront. Competing in House teams, students raced in straight-line formation, passing the baton in a clockwise pattern until one team was tagged from behind. With 10 points awarded for 1st place, this event had a significant impact on the overall House standings and generated some of the loudest cheers of the morning.
Ribbons were awarded to 1st–3rd place finishers in finals and heats, recognising individual achievement alongside collective success.
Final House Results
1st Place: Blue Sharks – 539 points
1st Place: Yellow Leopards – 519points
1st Place: Red Tigers – 475 points
1st Place: Green Cobras – 403 points
