From 4–8 March, eight Year 5 and Year 6 students from British International School, Phuket (BISP), travelled to Shanghai to compete in the 2026 FOBISIA Primary Maths Competition, hosted by Dulwich College.

Representing BISP were Sand, Surya, Dylan and Max from Year 5 and Jackson, Andrew, Stepan and Bella from Year 6.  The students were accompanied by Mr. Lord and Mrs. McCarthy. The young BISP students took part in two days of competition, facing a range of mathematical challenges that required logical thinking, collaboration and strong mental maths skills.

Both teams performed well across the different rounds. The Year 5 team achieved strong results in the Data Handling and Escape Room challenges, while the Year 6 team stood out in the Logic round. Throughout the event, all students demonstrated a positive attitude and represented the school with maturity and respect.

A special congratulations to Sand, who was awarded a bronze medal in the Individual Round—an excellent achievement in a highly competitive field.

Ahead of the competition, students spent time exploring Shanghai, including a visit to the Oriental Pearl Tower, providing a valuable cultural experience alongside the academic programme.

The success of the trip has also led to exciting news for the BISP community. Following this year’s event, BISP has been selected to host the 2027 FOBISIA Primary Maths Competition, and we look forward to welcoming schools from across the region to our campus.

In the lead-up to the competition, FOBISIA engagement extended across the Primary school. Students in Years 2–6 participated in the FOBISIA TTRockstars competition, answering an impressive 248,231 times table questions over three days and finishing 5th out of 65 teams.
