On Friday, 29th May, BISP hosted the very first Phuket Primary Maths Competition, organised and run by Mr. Lord.
It was a spectacular day of numbers, logic, and camaraderie, bringing together young mathematicians from across the island. BISP welcomed teams from five other international schools—UWC, BCIS, HeadStart Thalang, HeadStart City, and KIS—for a day of intense but incredibly fun competition. Each school was represented by talented teams of four students from Year 3, Year 4, Year 5, and Year 6.
The event challenged students across four distinct and exciting rounds:
The Individual Test: A round comprising challenging, age-appropriate mathematical problems that tested each student’s problem solving skills, invigilated by Secondary Maths Lead Mr Chambers.
The Practical Problem-Solving Round: A hands-on, dynamic session run by Mr. Whelden.
The Mathsmoji Arithmetic Round: Students answered questions on the mathsmoji website and then completed mastermind questions, run by Mr. Jang and Mr. Clarke
The General Knowledge Round: A collaborative round where students were mixed into cross-school teams, giving them the chance to make new friends from different schools while tackling maths trivia, led by Ms. Clarke and Mr. Lucas
The entire day was a resounding success! Visiting students and teachers thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to collaborate, build community, and celebrate mathematical challenges together on our campus.
BISP students did a fantastic job, showcasing the strength of Maths in the school. They came away with some truly outstanding results:
Year 3: Team Gold
Year 3 Individual Medals – Diamond (bronze), Jonty (bronze), Olivia (silver), Koa (silver)
Year 4: Team Gold
Year 4 Individual Medals – Mercy (bronze), Amari (silver), Phoenix (Gold)

Year 5 Individual Medals – Lucca (bronze), Vasilisa (silver) Sand (silver)
Year 6: Team Gold
Year 6 Individual Medals – Maksim(Y5) (silver), Nond(Y5) (gold), Xici (gold)
Following the incredible success and positive feedback from this inaugural event, we hope it will now become a yearly fixture on Phuket’s Academic calendar.
