Five BISP students travelled to Boao, China, during the school holidays to take part in the Math Kangaroo Asia Championship 2026, returning with an impressive collection of medals and memorable experiences.

Koa (Year 4) achieved Gold in the Individual Round and Silver medals in both the Guts and Team rounds. “It was very fun and a good experience. There were many games and mini maths tournaments during the camp. I suggest joining the camp!”

Nond (Year 6) won the top Gold medal alongside two additional Gold medals. He described his experience in Boao as an incredible journey of problem-solving, inspiring mentorship and unforgettable cross-cultural friendships.

Fellow Year 6 student Surya earned three Gold medals across the Individual, Team and Guts rounds. “Some of the competition was quite challenging, but it was so fun!” he shared. A particular highlight was working with his team to create a Sydney Opera House costume for the team show, as well as making new friends and learning new things along the way.

Sand (Year 6) also enjoyed a successful competition, earning three Gold medals. “I really enjoyed going to the Kangaroo Maths camp with my friends because we worked together and tried our best. I am very proud that I got a Gold medal for the individual round and two more Gold medals for the team round.”

Arsenii (Year 8) returned for his second Math Kangaroo Asia Championship, taking home two Gold medals and one Bronze. He also competed at the World Mathematics Invitational (WMI) 2026 Global Final in Chiba, Japan, in July, where he received a Bronze Award.

Beyond the medals, the championship gave our students the opportunity to challenge their mathematical thinking, work collaboratively and build friendships with students from across the region.
