This summer, BISP students Milla and Aurele spent a week at Imperial College London taking part in the Imperial Motorsport Engineering Summer School 2026, combining laboratory workshops, motorsport engineering and university life with the opportunity to build, test and race an F24 kit car.

For Jonathan Clark, Head of Computer Science and Technology Integration at BISP, it was particularly rewarding to see two students take interests they have been developing at school and explore them in a highly practical engineering environment.

An interest might begin in a classroom, through a robotics competition, a coding project, a fascination with Formula 1 or simply a desire to understand why something works. With enough curiosity, dedication and perseverance, that interest can develop into something much bigger.

Milla and Aurele came to the programme from different areas of interest. Aurele has been heavily involved in the BISP VEX Robotics programme, developing his skills in building, programming and problem-solving alongside his interests in Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics. Milla’s passion for Formula 1 and motorsport has led her to explore the engineering, data and innovation behind the sport, including creating her own F1 technical analysis website, Apex by Milla.

From the Laboratory to the Racetrack

Throughout the week, the students took part in lectures and laboratory workshops led by Imperial Teaching Fellows. A highlight was the F24 Kit Car project, where they were able to put engineering theory into practice by building, testing and adapting their cars before taking part in racing activities on campus.

The programme also gave Milla and Aurele the opportunity to hear from Imperial alumni and professional Formula 1 engineers, gaining insight into the different pathways that can lead to careers in engineering and motorsport. A meeting with an Imperial College Senior Admissions Officer for East Asia also provided a closer look at university applications and future study opportunities.

Beyond the academic programme, staying in student accommodation in South Kensington offered a taste of university life in London and the chance to meet other young people with similar interests.

The programme organisers reported that Milla and Aurele performed exceptionally well throughout the Summer School and stood out as exemplary representatives. The week gave them an opportunity to take their interests beyond the classroom, gain first-hand insight into engineering and explore where those interests might lead in the future. BISP is incredibly proud of the way they embraced the opportunity, challenged themselves and represented our school throughout the programme.
