The Thai A: Language and Literature programme for Year 12–13 Thai students hosted an inspiring alumni panel titled “Language is Power.” Moderated by Mr Suwinai Viponchai, the session welcomed three graduates: Federico “Feddy” Vassallo (Class of 2005, IB cohort), Samornpun “Tarn” Somnam (Class of 2005, IGCSE cohort), and Pichakorn “Peachy” Phanichwong (Class of 2012, IB cohort). They returned to share how studying Thai A has continued to shape their thinking, communication and confidence at university and beyond.
Mr Suwinai opened by reminding students that language is more than an exam skill; it is a power that helps us think clearly, connect deeply and make a difference. Each alumni built on this theme.
Feddy reflected on using language to express identity and values, describing himself as “a half Thai look with a 100 percent Thai heart.” Tarn highlighted how interpretation and empathy developed through literary study helps her understand people and contexts more deeply. Peachy shared how Thai A’s blend of creative and critical thinking gives her the courage to use her voice with confidence in any language.
Language is power, and the way we use our voice shapes who we become.
As a token of appreciation, the school presented souvenirs to the guest speakers. The event strengthened pride in Thai language and culture while motivating Year 12–13 students to carry their voices with purpose into the final stretch of their IB journey.
