42 kilometres a day, for 21 consecutive days. That’s the challenge BISP teacher Tom Richards has set himself this December, walking from Bangkok to Phuket to raise funds for children in need.
While most of us will be enjoying the school holidays, Tom, known to his students as Mr Richards, will be taking on an 850-kilometre journey he’s calling The Long Walk Home. His goal? To arrive back in Phuket just two days before school resumes in January.
But behind this ambitious physical challenge is a cause close to his heart.
Walking for Phuket’s Children
Since moving to Thailand, Tom has become increasingly involved in fundraising and charity projects. Through this work, he became familiar with the Phuket Sunshine Village Foundation, an organisation providing refuge and support for underprivileged children in Phuket.
The foundation receives no government funding and relies entirely on private donations.
Feeling fortunate to call Thailand home, Tom hopes to give something back to the local community, particularly to children who may not have access to the same opportunities that others enjoy.
Follow the Journey
Tom has already begun documenting his preparations on Instagram, sharing interviews and videos ahead of the trek. Once on the road, he plans to post daily one-minute updates, giving followers a glimpse into the challenges, experiences and progress of his journey.
The BISP community can support The Long Walk Home by following his progress, sharing his story or contributing to his fundraising campaign.
Support Tom’s challenge:
We wish Mr Richards all the best as he prepares for this remarkable journey, and look forward to following him every step of the way!
