The BISP school community recently came together to celebrate Chinese New Year with two joyful events that brought colour, creativity, and collaboration to our campus. With celebrations held on 10 February for Secondary and 25 February for Primary, the festivities provided wonderful opportunities for students, staff, and families to take part in one of the year’s most important cultural celebrations.

The Secondary celebration on 10 February was full of energy and creativity. At lunchtime and after school, the PTA organised a lively market which quickly became a hub of activity, with students and families enjoying the vibrant atmosphere. Another particular highlight of the day was the Year 9 Art exhibition, created to commemorate the Year of the Horse. The exhibition showcased the talent and imagination of our students and provided a beautiful cultural focal point for the celebration.

The Primary celebration on 25 February began with a spectacular Lion Dance in the morning, setting a festive tone for the day ahead. This was followed by a fantastic assembly organised by Ms. Grace Li Geng, one of our Primary Mandarin teachers. The assembly featured performances from Mandarin students across the Primary school, who took to the stage with great enthusiasm and confidence. It was especially heartwarming to see many Secondary students joining in as well, making the event a truly whole-school celebration.

We were delighted that several members of the school leadership team were able to attend the assembly and support the celebrations, including Mr Meredith, our Head of School, along with Ms Walter and Ms McCarthy from Primary and Mr Pearson and Mr Jarrett from Secondary.

The PTA once again added to the festive atmosphere by hosting a market in the Primary foyer after school, where students and their families gathered to continue the celebrations together. Events like these are only possible thanks to the dedication and generosity of our school community.

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to the PTA for their organisation and support, and a special thank you to the Mandarin team for the tremendous effort that went into planning and delivering such memorable events. Most importantly, we congratulate our students, whose enthusiasm, performances, artwork, and participation made these celebrations so special.

These two wonderful days reminded us how cultural celebrations bring our community together, helping students learn from one another while creating memories that will last for years to come.
