At BISP, we believe that mathematics is not just a classroom subject, but a powerful tool for understanding and shaping the world around us. That’s why BISP Year 6 Teacher and Primary Maths Leader, Mr. Lord runs the Fun Maths Problem Solving after-school activity (ECA) designed to take students beyond the standard curriculum and help them develop problem solving skills
In these sessions, our Primary students transition from “learning math” to “using math.” Through STEM-based practical challenges, students engage in collaborative engineering projects that test their logic and perseverance. Whether they are calculating structural integrity to Build Spaghetti Towers, designing aerodynamic protection for the Great Egg Drop, or engineering Bridges to hold weight using classroom blocks, they are developing the critical thinking skills essential for future success.
Beyond the physical builds, students spend time refining their reasoning skills to prepare for maths competitions, including the upcoming Kangaroo Maths. This preparation fosters a growth mindset, encouraging students to embrace complex, non-standard problems with confidence and curiosity.
