It is important for teachers to have a strong understanding of their subject. In the sports department, this understanding has to be quite physical. At the start of the second term, the PE teachers taught all secondary and primary classes athletics. In order to understand the different athletic sports better, the PE interns took on the challenge to try out each event. Due to their competitive nature, this then turned into the first “BISP Intern Olympics”.
In the blistering heat of the high season, javelins flew, shot-puts soared, jumps were jumped, and the runs were… almost completed. There were some unexpected winners, some sore losers and some who were just happy to be there. It is rumoured that some of the interns snuck in some extra training in an attempt to perform better. However, this did not necessarily prove to be beneficial.
The main takeaways from this informal event were that:

  1. Athletics is a lot harder to participate in than to teach.
  2. Getting frustrated and blaming the equipment gets you nowhere.

Despite some minor disagreements, most of the interns showed good sportsmanship and continue to get along.
